How To Live A Drama-Free Life
Dec. 2nd, 2010 11:38 pm1. Realize that all drama is rooted in one person trying to get the other to do what he/she wants.
2. Don't react. Do what you want. Learn to be indifferent.
3. Don't avoid dramatic situations. The more you experience them, the more you'll realize Rule 1 and 2.
--------------
We expect people to live up to the roles and responsibilities they've assumed, but every shithead you ever met is someone's child, sibling, spouse, or parent. Think of the worst boss you ever had - Someone has to go home to that every Christmas...or worse, every night.
We'll never be like those people. We construct ourselves as their antitheses, usually to our great advantage. But our light exists in stark contrast to the ever-present shadows that linger in our psyches; their inextricable presence...or just the memory of their cruelty.
I wish that wasn't the case. I know you all feel what I feel, and for that, I am sorry for you. I wish that life was different. I wish we lived in a world of better people, and that so very many didn't exist solely to serve as examples.
I will never be rid of too many scars, but these are the very things that bind me to my commitment to excellence. I will never fall, because I know what degenerate filth crawls at the bottom.
I wish, though, that there were some other way.
Oh, children of banishment,
Souls overcast,
Were the lights you see vanish meant
Always to last?
You would know not the sun overshining the shadows and stars overpast.
- Swinburne, "Hertha"
