I doubt if you'll be surprised if I say I entirely agree. Farcebook has done nothing but piss me off ever since I joined it. I can't think of any way in which it is better than LiveJournal. It makes us crave attention and validation and behave in exactly the narcissistic ways we hate in other people. We find ourselves writing banal posts of one or two trite sentences instead of developing our ability to express ourselves fully, creatively and accurately. People post ten or twenty times-a-day when a single post would be perfectly adequate. We are constantly pressured to add more and more 'friends' ("people you may know"), yet feel ever more distant and disconnected from the friends and family we actually do know. And we only see a fraction of our friends' posts in some random, ever-changing order that makes sense only to Facebook. These are just a few of the issues I have with that bloody awful site!
When I returned to LiveJournal a little over a year ago, I decided I was just going to do it on my own terms and because I wanted to, and regardless of what everyone else was doing. It's been a lonely battle at times, because interaction is important to me and there hasn't been much of that of late. I've made several attempts to persuade Facebook contacts to come over to LJ, but with very little success. Oh well, I think the time has come to say, 'To hell with them!'
